The Constitution of the Ohio State University Astronomical Society

Article I: Name, Purpose, and Non-Discrimination Policy of the Organization:
Section I: Name: Ohio State University Astronomical Society
Section II: Purpose: To provide an academic and social connection between undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty within the astronomy department, and to promote academic and professional growth among astronomy students.
Section III: Non-Discrimination Policy: This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individuals for reasons of race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, sex, age, handicap, or Vietnam-era veteran status.

Article II: Membership Qualifications and Categories of Membership:
Voting membership is limited to currently enrolled Ohio State University students in good standing who regularly attend meetings of OSUAS. Others, such as faculty and professionals, are encouraged to be involved as non-voting members.

Article III: Organization Leadership:
Section I: President: The President is expected to organize all official events and meetings, and to provide leadership at these assemblies. The President is also responsible for facilitating communication between members using means including, but not limited to, electronic mail, posters, and a website.
Section II: Vice President: The Vice President is to act as President in the event of his/her absence. The Vice President is also to record the minutes of every meeting.
Section III: Treasurer: The treasurer is to keep accurate records of all organizational funds, including those acquired and those spent on equipment or educational activities. In the event of the absence of the president and vice-president, the treasurer will assume the responsibilities of president. The treasurer is to veto any use of funds that would result in a negative amount in the treasury.

Article IV: Executive Committee:
The executive committee consists of the President, Vice President, and the Treasurer. The executive committee is responsible for scheduling meetings and events, and acquiring equipment and facilities.

Article V: Advisor(s):
The advisor must be a full-time member of the University faculty or administrative professional staff in the Department of Astronomy, or a co-advisor must be chosen who satisfies these above qualifications.

Article VI: Meeting of the Organization:
At least one meeting is required per 11-week academic quarter, excluding summer.

Article VII: Method of Amending Constitution:
Proposed amendments should be presented at a general meeting of the organization, and voted upon in a subsequent meeting. A majority of at least three-quarters (a quorum of at least four being present) is required to make the proposed amendment.

Article VIII: Method of Dissolution of the OSUAS:
In the event of dissolution of this organization, if any outstanding assets and debt exist, members will be notified at least two weeks prior to a meeting to decide the distribution of this balance.
